Leptospirosis

Leptospirosis is a bacterial disease spread Rat.Leptospira icterohaemorrhagica spread via Rat urine ( contaminated water, Paddy fields, flood, mines). Dogs and pigs also can carry the organism.The disease may be subclinical like in animals (In some parts of india – sero prevalence rate of 55% in general populatio –Sehgal et al 1994 )

Clinical criteria suggestive of leptospirosis
    (Reccomendations of Indian national symposium on leptospirosis-1997)
Acute fever with head ache, myalgia and Prostration associated with any of the following

• Subconjunctival haemorrhage
